A Viking Christmas

How exciting to be working as the Movement Director for A Viking Christmas at the beautiful Queen's Hall Theatre in Hexham!

"A VIKING CHRISTMAS is a new mid-winter’s show with live music, spell-binding real magic, action and laughter, set in the north of England, produced by Queen’s Hall Arts and written by North East playwright Gary Kitching.

A magical, mythical tale from the frozen land of the Nordic Kings, evil wizards and the Great Warriors of the Kingdom of Northumbria.

Join Lotte, a brave little girl, on her mid-winters adventure as she travels through the ice-covered kingdom of perilous, mystical places and mysterious beings, to the land of high castles and dark places, to the home of the Red Caps and the scary All-Father.

Weaving tales of the north, newly told, discover a new Viking twist on the Christmas story this December."

Hope to see you there for a cracking Christmas adventure (and my very first Panto!)

July 21st, 2014 DANCE CITY RESIDENCY

We spent a fantastic week in residence at Dance City developing Distance Duet.  We experiemented with the fragmentation of text and the misunderstandings inherent in this mode of communication.  Thanks to N and C for their messages - they even live texted the birth of a child!  See what we got up to HERE. Can't wait to get back to work next week!

JULY 14th 2014 PAVILION DANCE RESIDENCY

Had a really inspiring first week of R&D for Distance Duet at Pavilion Dance. Thanks to C and S for their text messages! We've started to research how personalities come across through text versus how we can represent them physically, what social dynamics are at play and how we can use text messaging in live performance. Gearing up for week two at Dance City!

JUNE 14th 2014 LOOKING FOR COUPLES

I'm looking for couples/friends/siblings willing to share their text messages with me for a new work this summer supported by Arts Council Engalnd, Pavilion Dance, and Dance City.  It takes text messages as its inspiration, using these abrupt, literal, and immediate communications as a starting place to create an imaginary relationship between two very physically real dancers. It should be lots of fun and you'll get a dance inspired by you and your partner's messages.  If you're interested or know someone who might be please get in touch at distanceduetdance@gmail.com

What you get:

A dance inspired by your text messages and our undying gratitude! We will be researching and developing the project this summer alongside some amazing dancers, filmmakers and photographers so you'll receive lots of updates and lovely images of the work your messages have inspired

What we need from you:

To agree to texting each other at least once a day and to give us access to the messages. Your identity will not be made public.

For more information please contact Jennifer@jenniferessex.com
